Coffee, Community and Conversation: iRISE Winter Social at Queen’s
Our iRISE Winter Social Breakfast at the McClay Library on Monday 16th December 2025.
With Christmas fast approaching, colleagues from iRISE at Queen’s came together for a Winter Social Breakfast in the McClay Library Auditorium on Tuesday, 16th December. The morning offered a welcome chance to connect and reflect beyond the demands of the first semester, over a light breakfast and a cup of tea or coffee in a warm, cosy atmosphere.

A highlight of the event was a talk from Dr Bee-Yen Toh, Co-Chair of iRISE, who shared first-hand insights into what it is like to live in her home city. Drawing on personal experience, she offered practical reflections and local perspectives for anyone considering making this area their home.

Professor Wei Sha, from the School of Natural and Built Environment and newly appointed Academic Lead for Race and Cultural Inclusion, also shared his vision for working collaboratively with colleagues — particularly iRISE members — to advance Race Equality Charter (REC) goals and strengthen an inclusive, supportive community for both academic and professional services staff.

Over 25 iRISE members from across University Schools and Professional Services attended, enjoying an uplifting opportunity to reconnect. We were proud to create space for conversations and collegiality that can be harder to prioritise during a busy semester.
We wish all our members a peaceful and restorative Christmas and New Year break.
