Search Services
To help users find key information more easily, we offer a range of search enhancement tools that can be applied to specific terms or topics. These include Best Bets, Curator, and Synonyms, each of which are designed to improve the visibility and relevance of content within search results. If there’s a particular search term you'd like to optimise these tools can be used to guide users to the most appropriate content. Examples of how each tool in practice can be seen below. If you would like to find out more please contact us via the IT Service Desk.
Best Bets
If there’s a key page or resource you want to highlight, for example information about “Graduations”, you can request a Best Bet. This allows a featured result to appear at the top of the search results when a user searches for a specific term. For example, when someone searches “Graduations,” we can ensure a prominent link to the official graduation page appears first, helping users find it quickly.
We have a Best Bet in place for Graduations, triggered by keywords such as graduation, graduations, ceremonies, summer graduation, and winter graduation. When a user searches using any of these terms, a featured result, highlighted in the image, appears as the most prominent link. The title, URL, and description of this result can be tailored to suit your content needs.
Curator
With the Curator feature, we can promote certain pages for specific search terms or patterns. This is useful when you want more control over what appears at the top of search results. For instance, we have configured the system so that pages related to “Graduations,” such as event guides or FAQs information, are prioritised for relevant search terms like “graduation details” or “graduation schedule.”
Synonyms
Synonyms help improve search accuracy by connecting related terms. If users search for alternative phrases like “Ceremonies,” “Grad Ceremony,” or “Ceremony,” we can configure the system so they’re treated the same as “Graduations.” This ensures consistent, relevant results—regardless of the variation in the user’s wording.
