Project: Reconnecting to green spaces: Improving access to green spaces for health

This project aims to encourage Central Liverpool communities to reconnect with their local greenspaces, nature, health, food, and their community through exploration, observation and conversation. This is in the context of deprivation, poor health and food insecurity, and concerns about climate resilience and biodiversity loss. It aligns with existing Groundswell, CLPCN, NHS NetZero and the Liverpool City Region priorities: to promote wellbeing, prevent disease, reduce health inequalities, and improve living- and green/blue spaces. The project builds on three key activities . Activity 1: Accessible routes and greenspaces - Exploring the routes between 4/10 Central Liverpool Primary Care Network (CLPCN) medical centres (Vauxhall – main site, Elms, Princes Park and Dingle) and local greenspaces (within 500m), to understand the barriers to people accessing them. Activity 2: Enhancing the growing spaces with additional features (e.g. shelter for year-round sessions, compost bins, rain harvesting/irrigation systems, additional planters and baskets) and building capacity by working with a community garden development specialist to deliver additional sessions, to support developing a sustainable garden resource. Activity 3: Improve local greenspace and air quality.
